About Shana "Shay" DeRusso

Leonardo Da Vinci once said "Where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art". These are words every artist should live by and I do.

"Spirit of the Adirondacks" -28x36" Pencil

The arts run strong in my family.  I was encouraged at a very early age to express myself on paper. I decided after high school to go into business for myself and explore my creativity to its fullest.

I have been doing pencil portraits for over 15 years. I have dabbled in many forms of art, from pottery to painting. Although I enjoy working on canvas and throwing on the wheel, pencil will always be my main choice of medium.

I started doing Adirondack Art in 2017 to show the world the beauty of this area, the rich Native American History and Nature through my eyes and my pencil.

In 2018, I was incredibly honored to win first place in the North Country Art
Council's  juried show called  'Expressions' with my beloved "Spirit of The Adirondacks". My heart was filled with love and gratitude towards the judge, the NCAC and the other artists who submitted incredible works of art.
As I have grown as an individual and an artist, I have learned that there is nothing more rewarding than being able to do what you're most passionate about. Thank you to all of the people who make it possible for me to do so. For I am so very honored.
